Pre-Placement Frequently Asked Questions

Do we have to use OHP's Pre-Placement Work Order form?

No. However, the contractor must receive a written request from the department for each applicant that contains all of the information found in the Pre-Placement Work Order form.  A department could use an alternate form as long as it provides the same information. Without this form a medical exam cannot be performed by the clinic.

What if none of the contractors can accommodate my request for a large number of exams?

This would be highly unusual and of concern. If this occurs please notify OHP staff.

How do I get the results for the applicants I sent for medicals?

All medical examination results are emailed to an authorized departmental representative.  If you would like to be added to the notification list, please contact your departmental representative or Nina Arbet-Brandt @ nbrandt@ceo.lacounty.gov.

What if we need expedited clearance on an applicant?

We appreciate that situations can arise in which departments may not be able follow our recommendations for allowing sufficient time to process medicals. In these cases, please contact Nina Arbet-Brandt at nbrandt@ceo.lacounty.gov  and we will try to meet your department’s needs.

Can we schedule an applicant for an out of state medical examination?

Yes, if the applicant is applying for an administrative position. Please review the information posted on Out-of-Town medicals.

What if we become aware of bad service from a contractor?

Please document the date, clinic location, and any facts pertaining to the incident and contact Nina Arbet‑Brandt at nbrandt@ceo.lacounty.gov.

Who should we contact if an Item Number is not listed on your Table of Pre‑Placement Contractors?

Please contact Nina Arbet-Brandt at nbrandt@ceo.lacounty.gov, and be prepared to provide information regarding the item number, class name, and whether the applicant’s job duties will likely include driving on County time an average of 4 or more hours per week.

What should we do if an applicant provides the department with medical information and/or records?

Please forward all documents to our mailing address:  3333 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 1000, Los Angeles, CA  90010.

How long does it take for OHP to receive the preplacement medical examination from the contract clinics?

As per our contract, pre-placement medical contractors are given 10 business days from the date of the medical examination.

Can we schedule a medical examination for applicants that are under the age of 18 years old?

Yes, a medical examination may be performed on applicants that are under the age of 18.  However, a parent or guardian must accompany the minor to the examination.  Both will be required to present a valid identification and sign a form authorizing the medical examination
