FOREIGN CONSULATE IDENTIFICATION CARD ACCEPTANCE On January 14, 2003, the Board of Supervisors adopted policy allowing County departments to accept as valid identification the Matricula Consular Identification Card issued by the Consulate of Mexico. The Board also authorized the CAO to approve acceptance of other foreign consulate identification cards based on standards that ensure: 1) that any foreign consulate identification card accepted requires the applicant to provide reliable identifying information to obtain the card, and 2) that the card has features reasonably designed to protect against fraud and counterfeit reproduction. Consistent with this policy, the CAO has approved the requests from Consulates for the Argentine Republic, as well as the Republic of Korea to have their Consular Identification Cards accepted as valid identification by the County. The Special Projects section is the point of contact for any foreign consulate wishing to have their identification cards honored by the County of Los Angeles, or for information related to the program. Pursuant to Board policy on the acceptance of foreign consulate identification cards, the Special Projects section is also responsible for coordinating with the foreign consulates participating in this program to provide training that will assist County employees to properly authenticate these identification cards.
