Licensed Family Child Care Homes Licensed family child care homes offer parents another dependable child care option. This type of care is provided in the home of a caregiver, for up to eight children with one adult, or up to 14 children with one adult and one assistant. Family child care providers tend to offer more flexible hours, and can serve children across age groups. Licensed family child care providers are also regulated by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing. These providers have successfully completed 15 hours of first aid training, and their homes are evaluated at least once every five years.
