Persons who care for the children of just one family, other than their own, can do so in their homes without a license. In addition, nannies and au pairs, who provide care in the home of the child or children, are not required to be licensed. In these situations, parents may want to consider contacting the TrustLine Registry at (800) 822-8490 to verify background information, including criminal record and child abuse index on prospective caregivers. While there is a cost to using the Registry, it can provide critical information.
