The mission of the Policy Roundtable for Child Care is to serve as the official County body on all matters relating to child care, working in collaboration with the Child Care Planning Committee and the Children’s Planning Council, to strengthen the child care system and infrastructure in the County by providing policy recommendations to the Board. |

Membership

The Policy Roundtable for Child Care (Roundtable) was established by the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors on March 21, 2001. There are 22 Commission members, including 12 organizational representatives and 10 supervisorial representatives. All Commissioners are appointed by the Board of Supervisors for their background, knowledge, expertise and/or experience in child care, early childhood education, or child development fields. Each member may serve up to four years. |

Committees
The Roundtable makes use of committees to delve into emerging policy issues and trends. In addition, the Roundtable participates in a joint committee with the Child Care Planning Committee to address federal, state and local policy legislative issues.
Joint Committee on Legislation
The Roundtable and the Child Care Planning Committee formed this joint committee to focus on federal, state and local policy initiatives as they impact the County of Los Angeles and child care and development services available for Los Angeles County families.

County Departments/Child Development Collaborative
As an outgrowth of the Policy Framework, this Committee is focused on forming strategies and policy recommendations for increasing access to high quality child development services aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect, supporting family self-sufficiency, and promoting school and life success. Membership is comprised of County Department representatives – Departments of Children and Family Services, Mental Health, Public Social Services and the Probation Department - and stakeholders representing child development programs.

STEP Promotion Committee
Responsible for developing strategies to promote the Steps to Excellence Project (STEP), the quality rating and improvement system currently being piloted in Los Angeles County.

Roundtable Links
Building Child Development and Related Service Sectors: A Policy Framework for Los Angeles County
The Policy Framework is intended to mobilize County departments and stakeholders from both the private and public sectors, to work across disciplines and jurisdictions, for the purpose of integrating child care and development services into all efforts aimed at supporting families and communities. The Office of Child Care is responsible for the implementation of the Policy Framework, with input from the Roundtable, the Child Care Planning Committee (Planning Committee), County departments and community stakeholders.
