The Public Information Office, one of the three sections of the Public Affairs Office in the Chief Executive Office, serves as the County's centralized source of information for the public. It develops informational materials about the County; responds to public inquires via telephone, mail, e-mail, and at its public counter; disseminates County documents (such as the budget, Grand Jury reports, and audits); serves as the media liaison for the County, both as spokesperson and in the capacity as landlord of the pressrooms in County buildings; develops materials for the County Internet home page and responds to the e-mail sent via the home page. The office also provides tours of the Civic Center, and serves as liaison for departments' public information officers. The Public Information Office assists the Board of Supervisors with special projects, including community events, plaques to honor community members, and development of memorabilia. The director of the office is an ex-officio member of the Emergency Management Council and its subcommittees.

Many of the documents developed by the Public Information Office are available on the Internet. They will be mailed upon request without charge, but postage is required for the larger documents.
