Cesar Chavez Community Service Week 2003-March 24-31

In celebration of the life and core values of Cesar Chavez, the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors proclaimed March 24-31, 2003 as "Cesar Chavez Community Service Week." County employees honored Cesar Chavez by participating in meaningful activities which reflected his life and values. More than 1,500 employees volunteered a day of service reading to children, beautifying parks and beaches, coordinating probation camp activities, and working at community centers. During Cesar Chavez Food Drive 2003, employees donated more than 24,357 pounds of food to needy families. The County Museum of Art also hosted the "Cesar Chavez: A Legacy of Ideas" exhibit from March 21-31, 2003, FREE to the public. In continuing tribute to Cesar Chavez, the Public Library's Cesar Chavez website features interactive components, online curriculum, video, audio and activities for children.
