Cesar Chavez Community Service Week,
Monday-Friday, March 29-April 2, 2010

The County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors annually recognizes the contributions of Cesar E. Chavez, a true American hero, by proclaiming a week in his honor. Instead of a day off, the “Cesar Chavez Community Service Week” is a time of service. Approximately 370 employees took a half-day off to volunteer at County parks, libraries, animal shelters, neighborhood organizations and a beach cleanup at Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey. County departments tailor existing educational and cultural programs to emphasize the mission and theme of “Cesar Chavez Community Service Week.”

In addition, the Cesar Chavez Food Drive is held in partnership with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. In 2009, employees donated more than 21,400 pounds of food items.

March of Dimes “March for Babies,”
Saturday, April 24, 8:00 a.m.,
Exposition Park

The fight against prematurity and premature births continues and County Supervisors and employees have joined the effort. Each year employees turn out at the “March for Babies” and raise funds to help stem the tide of premature births. In 2009, the County team raised more than $330,000, retaining the “Top Public Sector” trophy.
