Volunteer Program Our mission is to support Board of Supervisors Countywide projects and to promote a family-friendly work environment that enhances employee productivity, workplace saving options, workplace giving options, rideshare options and volunteer opportunities through effective and caring program management and creative image enhancement strategies. Since the founding of this great nation, volunteers have strengthened communities by serving the needs of others, building bonds of trust among people and enhancing the future for our children. In the County of Los Angeles, more than 3.8 million hours were donated in 2002 to provide new or enhanced services at County hospitals, libraries, parks, social service centers, fire stations, sheriff stations, museums and County offices. This generous donation of time and talent is valued at more than $61.5 million in additional services to the people of Los Angeles County. Annual Volunteer Recognition Week - April/May In tribute to the thousands of caring volunteers who daily enrich the lives of others, the County Board of Supervisors, in partnership with local, state and national leaders, declared April 27 through May 3 as "County of Los Angeles Volunteer Recognition Week." It has been through the caring spirit exemplified by American volunteers that a culture of responsibility, service to others, and a tradition of neighbor helping neighbor has been nurtured.
