Pledge to Reduce
Poverty in LA County
Take the Pledge for Shared Prosperity to help reduce poverty in your city by promoting programs that put food on families’ tables, money in their pockets, and connect them to healthcare and other essential benefits.

THE PLEDGE
A Pledge for Shared
Prosperity
“Our City joins Los Angeles County in our shared responsibility to reduce poverty and expand opportunity for all residents. We will work alongside the County’s Poverty Alleviation Initiative to connect more families to CalWORKs, increase access to tax credits, and help families keep their health and food benefits. We commit to our role as a poverty disruptor and partner in supporting the County with achieving the goals detailed in the Pledge implementation plan.”
Building Stronger Families, Stronger Communities by Uniting Los Angeles County Cities Against Poverty
Protecting Our
Communities
Poverty is a policy choice. Current systems are structured to reinforce disparities and perpetuate cycles of poverty. Since 2021, LA County has made poverty alleviation a Countywide priority.
The consequences of H.R. 1 are expected to be drastic—representing the largest cuts to federal food assistance (SNAP/CalFresh) and Medicaid in the programs’ history, pushing families into hunger and hardship.
While the County cannot backfill federal cuts, anti-poverty programs remain our region’s safety net. Working together with all 88 cities, we can target interventions, track progress, and ensure families get the support they need.
Less than 60% of eligible Los Angeles County families are currently receiving CalWORKs support.
