L.A. County is confronting the COVID-19 pandemic by following the science, ramping up testing and contact tracing, making sure residents and health care workers are safely equipped, caring for our most vulnerable residents and reaching out to the community so they have the most accurate information about this unprecedented pandemic.

From community-based testing, expansion of contact tracing efforts and providing PPE to frontline healthcare workers to intensive community outreach so that our residents are empowered and informed with the latest information, here’s how L.A. County is investing its CARES Act funds to protect the public’s health in the nation’s most populous county.

Contact tracers on the case to slow the spread of COVID-19

To rapidly meet the challenge of slowing the spread of COVID-19, LA County Disaster Service Workers and Public Health workers are dispatched as contact tracers. A total of $75 million in CARES Act funding was allocated to the Department of Public Health to support these efforts.

Drive-up mobile COVID-19 testing arrives in LA County

The first drive-up mobile testing site for COVID-19 opened at the South Bay galleria on April 3, 2020. It would be the first of dozens of drive-up and walk-up community testing locations throughout LA County. A total of $169 million in CARES Act funding was allocated to support the ramp up of community-based testing.

Protecting grocery store workers and shoppers

The Department of Public Health routinely conducts inspections of area supermarkets to ensure that all health protocols are being observed for public safety.
