HAZARD MITIGATION

Los Angeles County faces many potential hazards including earthquakes, wildfires, floods, excessive heat, drought, and others. Hazard Mitigation encompasses the actions taken now to reduce or even eliminate future risks to lives, property, infrastructure, and the environment.

Hazard Mitigation planning seeks to build up a community’s ability to withstand future disasters, strengthen infrastructure resilience, and adapt to new conditions such as those posed by climate change. This is accomplished through fostering partnerships across Los Angeles County and developing a unified set of mitigation priorities.
