Here’s a look back at our work being highlighted during Women’s History Month, but we advocate for women and girls every 👏single 👏day👏!

The Women and Girls Initiative ensures that women in Los Angeles County can thrive by eliminating all forms of discrimination.

With the 2-year anniversary of Roe v. Wade falling, removing protections for more than 25 million women nationwide, Los Angeles County continues to lead the nation on gender equity, being a safe haven for those seeking reproductive care from out of state.

Thank you to our historic #allfemale Board of Supervisors @hildasolis @hollyjmitchell @lindseyphorvath @supervisorkathrynbarger @supjanicehahn for enshrining these protections and being a leader for reproductive rights.

1-2) Alisa Williams, Policies and Programs, WGI Team

3-4) Jeanine Thomas, Manager of Risk Management & Operations at the Department of Auditor-Controller Administrative Services Division - Human Resources, said, “We looked at all of our processes through a gender lens” and “GIA helped us understand outcomes for all genders ...in the sense that we were able to look at our hiring practices and transition to management.”

5) Hayeda Takagushi, Assistant Public Defender at Los Angeles County Public Defender, noted, “The WGI allowed us to look at our services with a gender lens,” and “They [The Women and Girls Initiative] gave us the tools to do it.”

6) Maximiliano Regis, Chief Deputy at the County of Los Angeles Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures, shared, “Prior to the program [Gender Impact Assessment Program] we were not looking at gender demographics...after the program we found some revealing things...we knew it anecdotally but seeing the hard data made us change.” He added, “[We had] zero female representation (in many of our positions)—so we went out to partner with California Conservation Corps and hire folks directly from there.”
