Standing Against Identity-Based Hate and Violence

The Los Angeles County Anti-Racism, Diversity, and Inclusion (ARDI) Initiative stands firm in our commitment to foster a community of inclusivity, respect, and safety for all individuals. Recent national and global events, including the conflicts in the Middle East, have triggered a surge in identity-based hate and violence.

We acknowledge and are deeply concerned about the rise in incidents and their effect on our communities. These identity-based acts of hate and violence undermine the fabric of our shared values and threaten the safety and well-being of one of the most diverse counties in the country.

The Board of Supervisors, along with ARDI’s ongoing dedication to equity and inclusion, has adopted a number of motions including addressing transgender violencehate against AAPI residentsresponding to the increase in Antisemitic incidents, as well as the adoption of our Countywide Racial Equity Strategic Plan, all in efforts to institutionalize equity and foster cultural understanding, tolerance, and celebrate diversity.

The recent rise in anti-Semitism, anti-Arab hate, and Islamophobia have reminded us of the urgent need to stand against bigotry in all its forms. We must not only denounce such acts of identity-based hate and violence, but also proactively engage in efforts to create safe spaces, encourage empathy, and cultivate a culture of acceptance.
